First Steps: Childbirth and Parenting Classes

Mosaic PHC offers First Steps, a childbirth and parenting class program that provides information, life skills and material assistance applicable to childbirth and parenting. They consist of four, 2-hour classes instructed by registered nurses and volunteers. The classes include teaching, instruction, visual aids, and demonstrations. 

Class Schedule 

Granite City Center: Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm

Belleville Center: Thursdays, 6:30-8:30pm 

Class Topics

Class 1: fetal development, pregnancy nutrition, pregnancy anatomy and body changes, exercises, how to time contractions, signs of labor

Class 2: labor, delivery, post partum

Class 3: breastfeeding, pediatrician referrals, how to calm your baby, questions to ask your baby’s doctor, 

Class 4: Baby safety, SIDS, shaken baby syndrome, car seat and crib recommendations, infant cpr, parenting resources and support

All interested participants must have completed an initial consultation at Mosaic PHC before registering for our Childbirth and Parenting Classes. We recommend taking the classes during your 6th month of pregnancy. To register contact us at 618.451.2002 or

Material Assistance

At the completion of all four Childbirth and Parenting Classes, you will receive new baby items including diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, blankets, onesies, etc.
